Fulham Boys School, London

Renovation

The challenging installation of over 150no bespoke timber windows within a strict timescale.

Client: Fulham Boys School, DFe
Principal contractor: Morgan Sindall
Building heritage: Grade II listed

What we did

  • Installed 44 different types of windows over the 60 weeks of the project – handing the project over, 9 weeks ahead of schedule.
  • All windows were manufactured off-site and arrived as complete units, some as large as 3.2m x 1.4m. Most were wooden frames with single glazing to uphold the
Grade II listed status, but with slightly thicker glazing of 6mm to meet modern building regulations and help us achieve a U – value of 1.8.
  •  Retaining the essence of the building, all new windows matched the existing sash mechanism and fenestration details. A bespoke scaffold system was also designed for the scheme along with retractable transoms to aid in the install.
  • With a variety of windows that needed replacing including; timber sash windows,
single glazed along with a mixture of casement, fixed lights, sash and fanlights, and elliptical porthole – programming and phasing of works was key to an on-time and high quality delivery.
